Ah, yes. Forgive me Luke, I should have followed up on this sooner. So many distractions, and then this whole situation with Marishka.

Yes, from the reports, it looks like the enclosure will be finished within forty-eight hours.

Any inkling of what they have planned for her?

Unfortunately, no. After being questioned by two members of the police force, I feel it is wise to keep a lower profile than I would like. They don't seem to understand how Marishka could possibly like me the way she does...

No, nor have I been questioned or for that matter noticed - in regards to the latter, it's probably for the best.

If I were back home, I could have simply hired a team of lawyers to handle the matter. But here, the rules seem to play out quite differently... take the Major for example, as well as those hunters.

I sometimes wonder if the police here are the ones who truly hold the power. Marishka should not be locked up with them. They can't possibly give her the attention she needs... and then, her injuries... I am worried.

I advised her to quiet down, take whatever blood was offered and rest. The acting as a meek lamb should gain some favor with them and improve her situation.

Yes, at least I was able to calm her screaming. I've a mind to take her under my wing so to speak if they do ever release her. She needs to learn how to survive better in this place. Taunting hunters is never a wise thing to do...

I know she has such a playful spirit... but perhaps I can channel those energies in a more beneficial way for her. Along those lines, I've devised a 'treatment' plan to present to the authorities, should a moment present itself that seems promising.

It seems the most I can do at the moment...

What does the so-called 'treatment' entail?

None of this is ideal, my friend. If she doesn't comply with their wishes, I fear there is nothing that can be done to save her. But I feel we can 'compromise' by allowing her to stay as she is, yet curb her behavior in a way that will placate the authorities.

She needs to learn how to control herself, that much is clear.

I would propose new 'hobbies' that will ease the natural instincts that she feels so strongly, for a start. I also think, it might be best for her if I can serve as her temporary guardian through this process. I'm hopeful that all parties involved would see the wisdom in taking this approach...

Channeling her energies into a thrilling Circus Carnivore act maybe deemed acceptable.

Perhaps... but I am thinking along the lines of some more private games.

Such as...?

Well, naturally, I'll be wanting to speak with other vampires in the City before I would be able to fine tune my ideas on how to help Marishka best.

But I'd had the thought that suppressing her desire to hunt might be detrimental in the long run. It goes against nature to expect a predator to deny what they are... I can't even count the instances where trying to do that has ended in disaster...

My goal would be in finding an acceptable outlet for her instinctual desires. One that will challenge her, as well as to provide her with stability and to of course, keep her happy.

To this end, I wonder... what she would do with more challenging 'prey'. Mainly, a volunteer on an equal or better level who would be willing (on occasion) to allow her to express her instincts in a more acceptable fashion.

Based on personal observation, the vampiric majority here tend to be either toothless or leashed. Don't be surprised if you get an almost unanimous response on converting Marishka or worse, turning her into a pet.

Despite your glowing praise of your... brethren. I still think it wise to gather as much knowledge as possible so that we can aid Marishka. I'd rather go to the source for information than to go to the enemy. Bias' and such...

Putting the 'brethren' outside their comfort zone and during sleeping hours, should give you the upperhand in gleaning information from some of them.

Hm, perhaps. Although that might affect their willingness to speak with me, if they're uncomfortable and out of their element...
