It is a tricky situation. I think it best if they are separated as quickly as possible so that no further madness might occur. Will the police intervene?

Hm, I can't think of one instance where she has ignored what I've said. I'm confident that she will listen to reason if I am the one to make the request. Her devotion to me is surprising... I'm afraid I have no experience with such a thing as vampires are merely legend where I'm from. I really should ask her about this if I'm given the chance.

This seems like the best solution to the matter, taking her under my wing until she can learn proper control of her instincts. It's worth a try at least. If it fails, then another method will have to be resorted to...

I doubt the police will bother. They're not terribly responsive when it comes to these things.

I'm not sure how much Marishka herself knows about the habits and psychological tendencies of vampires. From all that I've read, however, it seems unlikely that her instincts can be controlled. The transformation from human to vampire involves--and this is speculation, mind you, but it seems likely--a removal of the human soul. A demonic creature (I suspect it's parasitic and disembodied when it's not inhabiting a vampire) takes the place of the soul. The creature lacks intelligence and an emotional capacity; the human brain, however, remains intact, resulting in a bizarre mix of human memory and demonic instinct.

Again, I must stress that this is speculation. It's very difficult to prove the existence of insubstantial things like souls and demons without natural bodies, you know.

I suppose I mean to say that instinct and demonic tendencies are intrinsic to Marishka's very being, and no amount of control exerted by whatever shreds of humanity vampires possess will be able to fully restrain either.

Will you let me follow you attempts to alter her behavior, however? Nothing like this has been documented, and a study might shed a good deal of light on the internal workings of vampires. Most of my information comes from books written by the Church, you see, and the Church is very much against vampires. A bit of unbiased documentation might revolutionize the way vampires are treated in my world.

Not that I think this is a good idea, of course, but it's certainly interesting.

I would have no problem with your studying this, Carl. Although she might object to having you around... I wonder if she would allow it if I asked?

It's worth trying. I prefer to think of the vampires I've encountered as I would any new species with their own requirements and ways of behaving... knowledge is the only way of properly dealing with any possible mishaps.

Of course she'll object to having me around. I was involved with her demise, as well as that of her sisters and master. It's actually a very long and tedious story...

It is, of course, but you're oddly nonchalant about the matter for a man who has had no prior experience with vampires. They're not a new species by any means, and your lack of caution where Marishka is involved is inviting mishap, if you ask me. God knows how many innocents she's seen fit to murder, and she certainly hasn't acted kindly towards humans in the past. I would appreciate it if you practiced more caution.

Please try to work towards some semblance of a civil relationship with the hunters? I don't agree with their methods or their collective inability to listen to sound advice, but their intentions are good.

Should I start referring to you as 'mother'? The way you're worrying about me... Ah, don't worry Carl! Everything will work out fine, I'm sure of it. I just can't help my excitement to see a creature from legend step out of the books! Surely you can appreciate that from a scientific standpoint...

And yes, I'd rather be on good terms with the hunters. So long as they stop kidnapping my friends. Even now, I hold no grudges... although I think it unlikely that they will feel the same about me for taking her side.

Still, many wars have been averted over a nice cup of tea... I wonder if they'd be willing to shake hands once this whole mess is over with...

Worrying happens to be one of my many talents, and I believe it's warranted in this situation. As exciting as the opportunity to interact with a supposedly mythological creature might be, forgetting that Marishka is a very real threat to your continued existence isn't recommended.

They did what they thought was right, however misguided their actions were. Perhaps some kind of peace isn't impossible.
