I'm not sure how much Marishka herself knows about the habits and psychological tendencies of vampires. From all that I've read, however, it seems unlikely that her instincts can be controlled. The transformation from human to vampire involves--and this is speculation, mind you, but it seems likely--a removal of the human soul. A demonic creature (I suspect it's parasitic and disembodied when it's not inhabiting a vampire) takes the place of the soul. The creature lacks intelligence and an emotional capacity; the human brain, however, remains intact, resulting in a bizarre mix of human memory and demonic instinct.
Again, I must stress that this is speculation. It's very difficult to prove the existence of insubstantial things like souls and demons without natural bodies, you know.

Most of my information comes from books written by the Church, you see, and the Church is very much against vampires. A bit of unbiased documentation might revolutionize the way vampires are treated in my world.
