28th Devotion; Healing the Sick and Injured

Saya, Hagi... please wait to hear from me. Try to rest as best as possible Hagi, hopefully we'll have you back to normal soon...

Lilith, I'll be needing to take the day off for important business concerning my patient. Hopefully, I will return tomorrow.

[ARTEMIS FILTER]

Mr. Reed and Mr. Dylandy, if you could both take time out of your busy schedules and attend me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I have a rather interesting case that I'm working on... a patient that I wish to restore to full health. Considering the gravity of his wounds, I shall be taking a different approach to this matter, although I'm confident that the results we can gain from this will benefit not only this individual, but our own efforts within the company.

Can you spare a moment of your time?

[DEITY FILTER// Unhackable// Viewable (hopefully) by CLOW REED & LYLE DYLANDY]

I'd like to negotiate a deal with you...

[ooc: I'd like to keep the information that reaches Clow, and Lyle limited if the deity would even allow the eavesdropping. Up to whoever would reply as to what they'd prefer to do.]

Indecision filled him. Was he doing the wrong thing by insisting on taking such drastic measures so quickly? Perhaps he should have asked the other members of his organization before having come to the conclusion that going to the deities was the only way.

Where was Van when he needed someone to handle matters for him?

"Lady Basene... surely you see the reasoning behind my decision. What else can be done?"

"Did you look before you went to the Deities?"

How long was it going to take before the weaves took hold? She was already using far more than usually. Far more.

"It seems to me you didn't."

Casting his eyes to the ground, his brow furrowed and he frowned. She was unhappy with him...

It was a bit embarrassing, how foolish he must seem to her. In an unconscious gesture, he ran his hand through his hair, shifting on his feet like a child who had been caught doing something bad.

"... I... probably should have..." Peeking out through the longer lengths of his bangs, he grinned sheepishly. "I'm sorry. But, Hagi... I have to fix this..."

He paused, puzzled by his actions. Hadn't he been determined just moment before? Still... she had a point. It was well known by anyone that was close to Solomon that he on occasion would act on his impulses without thinking...

Perhaps this had been a mistake after all.

The hesitations were a positive. It was finally starting to work.

Finally.

Her lips almost curled into a smile but she stopped them before they could do so. That would ruin things. "Why must you fix this? I am failing to see that."

"Hagi is family to me... as is Saya. I've sworn to protect her with my life, and by extension, I wish to be of assistance to him as well."

Sighing, he thought back to the family he'd lost. Amshel, Nathan, Carl, James, and last but not least, Diva. It had been one of the hardest decisions he'd ever made, turning against them. But Saya was their bride... he just couldn't continue to support their plans to kill her. Not Saya...

He longed for that sort of bond again. To be a part of things, to be needed... to be able to spend his life as a part of something greater.

Family. Love. All of this childish devotion was making her feel ill. While he wasn't looking she actually rolled her eyes in disgust.

"I think you shouldn't make a deal with the Deities."

Hopefully the Compulsion was working by now.

"... shouldn't... but..." He struggled, his thoughts a mess of indecision and haziness.

"I can't just leave this. If there's another way, please tell me." He gazed at her imploringly, desperately trying to figure out how to make things better.

"Do you know of a way to restore a missing limb?"

"I can get you an arm. You can find someone with the power to restore his arm. But you shouldn't make a deal with the Deities."

She was so close. And he was still backing off.

"It would be a bad idea to make a deal with the Deities."

[identity profile] favoritetraitor.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
"... the arm... would have to be compatible to his genetic make up. It will be easy for the arm to reattach itself if it were the correct type..."

He felt comfortable in her presence, as if they'd known each other all their lives. Surely, she would understand.

"I want it to be perfect... he's a musician you know."

Apparently the Deity idea was gone. Hopefully. Crossing her legs, she studied him for several long moments.

"How would one be sure the arm was compatible?"

[identity profile] favoritetraitor.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
"I can only think of one way... but she would not accept it." He frowned, frustrated at the thought of his efforts being thwarted. "It would have to be of the same genetic structure... and since there are no donors of that nature in the City that I'm aware of, we'd have to recreate one."

The idea was certain to work, the principles were sound. But it would take time, and Saya would no doubt be horrified at the prospect, even if it would restore Hagi to the man he had once been.

"But, my knowledge of magic is virtually non-existent. Perhaps that would be an option...?"

Action

[identity profile] akaladybasene.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
"It would. Of course, it may require a sample of Hagi's tissue in order to recreate a limb."

She had seen it done many time before. Thousands of years ago but she still remembered it well. Her specialty was the mind yet that didn't stop her from having knowledge in other areas.

"My knowledge is mainly in the One Power though. Not magic."

[identity profile] favoritetraitor.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Acquiring a sample from Hagi should not be a problem..." He gazed thoughtfully over at the woman across from him. "This "One Power"... can it manifest an arm for him?"

The idea was both frightening and exciting at the very same time. In his world there was no such thing as magic. But if there had been... his mind reeled at the possibilities.

"I was born during a time when anything was possible medically. No disease was incurable. Nothing couldn't be achieved." She toyed around with the rings on her fingers for a moment.

Her skills involved the mind. Not the body. Still, she knew the threads. Perhaps she would volunteer them if it meant keeping him from doing something stupid like that again.

Hagi, whole... at least the arm that had been most recently taken from him. He'd be able to play the cello again, the sweet sounds of music floating throughout the air of the apartment. Even Solomon enjoyed to hear Hagi play...

"If such a thing were possible... I would be content. Saya would accept this method. I think she'd be quite pleased." He looked forward to seeing her face light up at the news. "But I need to know if this can happen in such a way. Can you do this? Or someone you know?"

[identity profile] akaladybasene.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
"I am the only one in this entire City with the ability to even touch the One Power. The only other one from my world cannot touch it. He has his own...abilities." Solomon could toy around with that one.

Now, would she volunteer or not? It was an interesting dilemma. Fortunately, she knew what she could do.

"My skills have always been with the mind. However, give me some of his tissue and I know where there is a device to recreate his arm. There will be no sacrifice necessary. It will be his arm reborn."

In just that one sentence, his had his undivided attention. His heart leaped at the thought that it was even possible. "My lady..."

Smiling warmly he reached out and took her hand in his... "How can I ever repay you?"

That was a good question, one that made him falter slightly in his enthusiasm. But then again, what could Lady Basene want that would even come close to Sabine's request. His expression only sobered slightly, but the smile remained fixed from years of practice. "Is there... anything that would make up for such a gift?"

[identity profile] akaladybasene.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
He had no idea but she actually had just what she wanted. A smile made her lips curl upwards as she watched him. The sudden enthusiasm was cute. Perhaps one day she'd find another use for him. Until then, she needed him to be researching ways to get out of here.

But wait...

"There is one way. It might even interest you. There is a man who visits my establishment. His luck is extraordinary. Unnaturally so. I have been interested in seeing where this luck comes from." A partial lie but he would never know that. "Perhaps that would interest you too?"

Action

[identity profile] favoritetraitor.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Luck?"

Luck was something intangible, a faint whispering of the wind. Nothing that could be bottled or studied...

Still, Solomon was always curious about new things. It was what had made the last century of his life bearable. "And who is this person?"

Releasing her hand, he crossed around to sit at his desk. His mind had already raced ahead to thinking of what items would be necessary to acquire the tissue sample that Lady Basene had requested.

"His name is Matrim Cauthon. Most everyone knows him as Mat. He gambles at my establishment. It's quite interesting since I know he doesn't cheat. And yet, he has never lost a dice game."

Her fingers toyed with her necklaces. It was about time she got someone to recognize her enemy.

"Also, I have learned something about him during the curses here. He has memories from hundreds of years..." She paused and smiled. "...from hundreds of men who are not himself."

Action

[identity profile] favoritetraitor.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
That caught his interest. Solomon's head quirked slightly, his thoughts distracted momentarily from his upcoming plans.

"Hundreds? That is interesting. Very well, I'll be more than happy to take a look at him for you. But, after Hagi has been restored. I hope that will be alright with you..."

"Naturally. I would be surprised if you abandoned your brother so rapidly." She smiled then rose to her feet. A gateway back to her rooms at The Den appeared behind her. Like a hole had just opened.

"Let me know when you have the sample tissue."

He stared in rapt attention at the portal behind her. It was amazing seeing the air in the room ripple as they tore apart to reveal the rooms to another location. Magic astounded him, making him crave the knowledge to be able to do that. Biting his lip, he determined to look into the possibilities. This City was opening so many doors...

"... yes. Of course..." His voice was distant to his own ears, mind still dazzled from the weaves of her power. She was an amazing woman. Powerful, smart, a mystery waiting to be unraveled. The only thing missing was the blood...

He smiled, pleased with their impromptu meeting and the promise of getting to know her better. Hagi would be healed, Saya overjoyed, his new little family strengthened from this whole experience. And the price he'd have to pay was trivial... something that he might normally have looked into on his own. What could be better?

"I should have it perhaps as soon as tonight. And... Lady Basene, thank you. I'm eternally grateful."

This meeting had turned out to be better than she'd thought it would be. She was quite pleased with herself for coming here.

"You're welcome, Solomon."

A sweet smile drew her lips upwards. It still stunned her that she had used enough of her power to destroy a human mind just to get him started with listening to her. Perhaps he wasn't human. It would be interesting to keep an eye on him. He could be very useful as time went on.

"Take care."

A nod and she gracefully turned and went through the gateway. It closed behind her in complete silence.
