94th Devotion: Giving in to Panic

[The video snaps on to show the rather agitated pacing form of Solomon Goldsmith. The usual easygoing smile is gone from his face, and his fingers fidget with a small photograph held tightly in his hands.

He glances over at the small red light of his video device that indicates that it's recording and sighs before walking over and holding an image up to the camera.]

Does anyone happen to know this girl?

If so, I'd like to speak with you...

[He withdraws it from the camera, his barely composed expression dissolving to show a flicker of the stress that's plaguing him.]

Please... It's important...

[His hand reaches up to switch the broadcast to audio.]

[Private to Keats]

Mr. Keats... I have a job for you.

[ooc: going out for a few hours this evening but will tag when I get back! Backtags always welcome~]

Keats was fast to go to Solomon's. It was unlike his friend to be so anxious. Something bad, the Curses had not been friendly with him lately. He rapped on the door with a soft sort of rhythm. "Oi, Sol?"

It took barely a moment before the doctor had crossed the floor of the living to let his guest in. The apartment was dim, it's curtains muting the harshness of the daylight outside.

"Mr. Keats... please come in." Solomon gave a half-hearted polite smile, but his body still showed the tension that was permeating his being.

"What is going on, Sol?" Keats remained at the door and cautious. Call him paranoid, but he'd been in the underworld enough times to trust nothing, especially in the City.

Solomon falls back to pacing the floor again, not knowing how else to rid himself of the nervous energy that's been building up in him. "... Saya..."

He stops momentarily, shooting an anxious glance back at the figure standing in the doorway. "... I think she's leaving me."

Keats is in one part shocked and another part hoping this is a curse. It didn't seem... normal for the two of them to be separate. Compiled with the last time that he spoke to Saya, Keats was more than a little incredulous to this idea. “What makes ye think that, Sol?”

Slowly Keats made his way into the other man’s apartment. Solomon did appear as a man lost. Keats frowned, he wished that there was something that he could do, but if this was truly a curse, it would just be waited out. If he could, he would try to ease the other man’s conscious.

His shoulders slumped dejectedly, running through all the telltale signs that seemed so obvious now. "I haven't been able to protect her..."

Solomon crossed the room to collapse on one of the sofas, his hand reaching up to massage his temple. "I've failed her... and now it seems as if she's looking to others to give her what I could not."

"We've all been caught off guard a few times, Sol." Keats offered softly. "Every one a us. I know more'n a few times I've had ta have me arse covered. She needs emotional support. An ye give her that."

"Ya want me to follow her a bit. It'll ease yer mind."

"If she's leaving, isn't it a bit late to try to offer her my support? If it meant anything at all, she'd stay..." Sitting up, he buried his face in his hands for a moment, unable to bear the idea of her walking out after all they'd been through.

Taking a moment to gather himself, he brushed his fingers through the length of his tousled hair. "... but... I'll take you up on that offer." He gazed back up at his friend with weary eyes. "I can't just let her go... even if she doesn't want to be with me anymore... I just can't."

Keats nodded and put a hand on his friend's shoulder. "I'll check up on her. Alright? Promise."

Solomon's mouth pressed into a tight line and he gave a firm nod of assent. "Find out... find out where she's going, who she's moving in with... find out what they're like, if they're reputable."

The thought of it was distressing, reminding him of the time when he'd first arrived and Saya had taken up residence with that young Romeo. "I have to know she's safe."

"Absolutely. Saya is my friend, same as you. I'll make sure to find out what is going on." Keats was certain this was a curse, but he didn't know how to say that. He wanted to ease his friend's mind, but didn't quite know how. "Ye gonna be alright? Just, maybe take a load off, watch something on the telle."
