91st Devotion: Civil Disobedience

NON NON NON NON NON!!!!

[The sound of a sudden high pitched shriek fills the air, followed by the little pitter patting of tiny feet as a three year old Solomon races into the room.]

NO BROCCLY! NO!!!!!!!!!!!

[In a move of desperation, he races to the nearest fortress that can save him from the horrors, darting underneath the desk in his office to quickly hide from sight.]

BAD BROCCLY! DON'T WANT!!!!

But you wouldn't eat one if it were green and lumpy, of course, no. Because you don't like that.

[Solomon wavers, uncertain...]

Solomon caterpillar would like broccoli too. Caterpillars eat plants all the time. Do you know what happens to caterpillars eventually, after they've eaten enough plants?

[...well. Manipulating children is socially acceptable to a point. And he's interested to see what happens.]

[The Master looks at Solomon for a moment and then GRINS.]

I'll be right back.

[He stands up and hurries off. About two minutes later, he comes back, cheerfully brandishing a picture book. That he was able to find. The Library clearly WANTS him to procrastinate, stupid thing.]

Here! Story!

[Sitting back down, he opens the book and turns it so that the pictures display on the video. He speaks in his best reading-a-book voice, which, for some reason, emphasises the Lancastrian undertones in his accent.]

The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

In the light of the moon, a little egg lay on a leaf...

[He continues on through the book, his voice expressive and, well, this is a fun way to procrastinate.]

[Solomon stares mesmerized at the screen, unwilling and quite unable to break the spell woven by the Master's storytelling abilities.

Even afterward, his eyes remain large and fixed on the box on the desk, and he waits with bated breath for what the man will say next.]

aaaAAaaah~!!!

[Shutting the book, the Master sets it down beside him.]

Now, you see, you can learn something from the Very Hungry Caterpillar. If you eat too many sweets, you'll end up with a tummy ache. But if you eat fruit, and your greens, like a good caterpillar, you'll feel much better. And eventually, you'll turn into a butterfly. Isn't that better?

[The wheels in his mind are, by the look on his face, spinning furiously. But he finally seems to come to a conclusion.]

Solomon caterpillar would be a PRETTY butterfly! An' an' I could flyyyy...

Well, there you are. Your...mum [He has no idea. Who's feeding Solomon broccoli anyway?] Your mum's just trying to help you grow up into a butterfly. That's what all the broccoli's about.

[He wants to laugh SO BADLY.]

[This seems to please the little tyke, and he gives the Master a huge grin before running off to eat his broccoli.]

Heehee~ okay, merci! Bye bye!
