83rd Devotion: First Aid at Home

[Accidental Video// Action for the apartment]

[The video comes to life, showing a somewhat harried Solomon walking quickly across the room. His crisp white shirt is painted a deep crimson from the collar down on one side. And his hand stays firmly pressed to the side of his neck as he disappears into another room for a moment.

When he returns, he carries a few bags of blood and a medical bag under in one arm.]

And I just bought the couch too. Of course, it will have to be replaced...

[Sighing, his body sinks down to dig through his medical bag, pulling out some sterile gauze, a roll of filament, and a curved needle with his free hand. He speaks to someone off-screen, voice assuring and calm.]

Don't worry, just a few stitches and everything will be fine~, you'll see.

[Turning to look off camera, he addresses the other person.]

I'm afraid I'll need your assistance now. Would you mind holding the compress while I prepare the sutures?

I think that's good, and I'm pleasantly surprised. Not everyone by far would keep their calm in such a situation.

It seems that any injuries acquired today will not stop bleeding.

I suppose it's all relative to what you've been through, as to how you handle a crisis situation. I'm hopeful that this particular curse won't prove to be unmanageable.

The more I hear about this, the less I want to get hit by a curse. Isn't there anything to be done about this?

I hope so - for you and everyone.

Unfortunately not. Although there's been some suggestion that those that live in the underground might not be as afflicted as those above ground. As to whether this is true or not, I can't say.

As for myself, I far prefer a skyline view of where I live than to dwell underground. Even if it means I'm at times inconvenienced...

[voice]

[identity profile] fledglingofkyou.livejournal.com 2010-01-10 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
The Underground? I don't think I heard much about it, yet.

I feel much the same. Living underground sounds so strange... like some sort of youma.

[voice]

[identity profile] favoritetraitor.livejournal.com 2010-01-10 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Youma?

And I wouldn't advise going there unless you're capable of fending off the various creatures that reside down there. It isn't what I would consider very safe for most humans.

They're demonic beasts, unholy creatures. They eat people and roam the kingdom when it's in a bad state.

... okay. That's good to know.

[voice]

[identity profile] favoritetraitor.livejournal.com 2010-01-10 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I see~

No, we don't seem to have any of those here, thank goodness. I think we have enough to deal with without that.

Are you new to the City?

[voice]

[identity profile] fledglingofkyou.livejournal.com 2010-01-10 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
From the sounds of it, you... we do.

Somewhat. I've been here for about a month now.

[voice]

[identity profile] favoritetraitor.livejournal.com 2010-01-10 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I hope that you've been able to adjust well enough to the idiosyncrasies of this place. It can be trying...

I should introduce myself properly, though. My name is Solomon Goldsmith...

[voice]

[identity profile] fledglingofkyou.livejournal.com 2010-01-10 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
So far, it's been easy enough on me. I have not been hit by a curse yet.

Oh, right! Pleased to meet you. My name is Shushou.

[voice]

[identity profile] favoritetraitor.livejournal.com 2010-01-10 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
A pleasure, Miss Shushou. I must say that you've been quite fortunate to have gone so long without being cursed.

[voice]

[identity profile] fledglingofkyou.livejournal.com 2010-01-10 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm aware of that, and I certainly hope my luck will hold out a while longer.

[voice]

[identity profile] favoritetraitor.livejournal.com 2010-01-10 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps beings from your world have a higher resistance to the curses? Hm, I should have my people survey the populace on such a possibility...

[voice]

[identity profile] fledglingofkyou.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Huh... you think that's a possibility?

Do you usually investigate these things?

[voice]

[identity profile] favoritetraitor.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
It's possible. But of course, we'll have to look into it before coming to any conclusion.

I have a research company called ARTEMIS that looks into the mysteries of the City.

[voice]

[identity profile] fledglingofkyou.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Of course!

... that's interesting.

[voice]

[identity profile] favoritetraitor.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
It gave me something to do when I first was brought here, and seems to be working well.

[voice]

[identity profile] fledglingofkyou.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
Really? So you've found out a lot already?

[voice]

[identity profile] favoritetraitor.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
It's a constant work in progress. Research, tests, interviews, etc etc... these things take time. But I'm hopeful.

[voice]

[identity profile] fledglingofkyou.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
... how long have you been doing this, and with what results?

[voice]

[identity profile] favoritetraitor.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
ARTEMIS is just under one year old at this point. But for your question, it would very much depend on which project you're speaking about in order to answer it. For the most part, we've had the most success in documenting the various anomalies that have struck this City in the last year.

One must understand something in order to change it.

You have to keep in mind that any research facility needs time to be successful, and we do have the deities working against us to contend with...

[voice]

[identity profile] fledglingofkyou.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)

Right. I do understand those points.

[voice]

[identity profile] favoritetraitor.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
True enough~ except when members are cursed and destroy the work they've so diligently put together. Or either are unable to work or vanish from the City entirely.

You can see the challenge in keeping anything together at all...

[voice]

[identity profile] fledglingofkyou.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, so even that happens? I admit I wasn't thinking of that.

Yes, I see it clearly now.
